The prospect of a move to La Liga giants FC Barcelona this summer is unlikely and Bernardo Silva himself knows that, according to a fresh update from reliable sources.

The Portugal international is widely believed to be open to the idea of leaving Manchester City once again this summer, in a market that would make it four successive seasons of the midfielder eyeing an exit from the Etihad Stadium.

Speculation was brought to a close last summer when Bernardo Silva and his representatives finalised an agreement with the Premier League champions over a contract extension, with the new deal featuring a release clause.

As such, the quietening down of transfer speculation was only ever going to last so long, with the Portuguese playmaker’s £50 million release clause expected to lure interest from throughout the European game.

One such club who were always expected to reappear in the chase for Bernardo Silva was FC Barcelona, however a new report has detailed a worrying feeling from the side of the player, for those of a Catalan club allegiance.

According to reputable journalist Lu Martín, speaking to Què T’hi Jugues this week, Bernardo Silva himself believes that he will be unable to join FC Barcelona during the upcoming summer transfer window.

Lu Martín explained, “Bernardo Silva believes he won’t be able to join Barça this summer and how it’s also unlikely he’ll live in the city next year.

“Manchester City will not sell him for anywhere below the release clause,” which is widely understood to have been installed as part of his contract renewal last summer, and stands at a valuation of £50 million.

Bernardo Silva, despite his clear intent to bring an end to his time at Manchester City, has remained professional to the cause and ambitions of his teammates and the wider football club this season, retaining his role as an integral part of Pep Guardiola’s system.

The 29-year-old has been one of the most-used names in Guardiola’s team selections across the ongoing campaign, registering a total of 44 appearances across all competitions to date, scoring 11 goals and providing a further six assists.

Bernardo has also been at the centre of some significant moments for the club too, scoring vital strikes at the Santiago Bernabeu against Real Madrid, as well as the FA Cup semi-final winning goal against Chelsea last month.
