Benjamin Nygren praised both the performance and the spirit of the Celtic squad as the Hoops rounded off their Portuguese pre-season tour with an impressive 2-0 victory over Sporting CP in the Algarve.

Reflecting on the win against the Portuguese champions, the Swedish midfielder was pleased with the way Brendan Rodgers’ side asserted themselves in a game full of quality.

“I think it was a very good game,” said Nygren. “I thought we were very good on the ball. We could’ve scored more goals but it was very nice to score against a very good team.

Having featured prominently throughout pre-season, the 24-year-old has settled quickly into life at Celtic, something he credits to the environment around him.

He added: “The group is amazing. All of the coaching staff are amazing. It’s been easy to settle in."

With the Portugal leg now complete, attention turns to Paradise, where the Bhoys will face Newcastle United on Saturday in their only pre-season game at home before heading to Italy next week.

It’s a game Nygren is relishing, and one that will see him experience Celtic Park for the first time.

He said: “Newcastle are a huge team, so it’s going to be very fun to play at Paradise for the first time.”
