Last month, Celtic completed a £1.7 million move for the versatile midfielder from Danish Superliga outfit FC Nordsjaelland, tying him down on a five year contract.
During his impressive campaign with Nordsjaelland, Nygren earned his first senior call up from Sweden boss Jon Dahl Tomasson and went on to make his debut against Luxembourg.
Speaking to Celtic TV, Nygren said: “For me, it is my proudest moment so far in my career [making his Sweden debut]. I think it is special for everyone when you play for your country and hear your national anthem.”
“I saw my family there and watched them – my sister was crying. It was difficult to watch them because it was such an emotional moment, but it was amazing, and I am so glad for it.”

Nygren added: “I am starting to feel it [emotional]again. It is a very emotional thing, because it is something that you work hard for every day. For anybody who is not really into football, they don’t know the work behind the scenes.”
“Every day, you work, and you have to be disciplined, like by going to bed on time – it is your whole life, as well as a lifestyle. To achieve this dream is so difficult to describe, but it was amazing.”
During his first appearance for the club on Saturday against Estrela da Amadora, Nygren wasted no time in making an impression by setting up Adam Idah for the Hoops’ equalising goal in the second half.
Nygren and his teammates will be gearing up to face Primeira champions Sporting Lisbon in their second and final pre-season encounter in Portugal this evening.
The Swede will have his first taste of action at Celtic Park this weekend when Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United visit Glasgow’s east end, with a limited number of tickets still available via the official Celtic FC website.
