Real Madrid made the trip to Real Betis on Saturday, and the points were split after a 1-1 draw.
Scorers: Ruibal 66′; Bellingham 53′
Entertainment was on display at Estadio Benito Villamarín as this match went end-to-end with bright moments for both teams.
Real Madrid controlled the match with 65% possession, but Real Betis threatened more in front of goal with five shots on target compared to two.
Over the first 45 minutes, Ayoze Pérez and ex-Madrid star Isco impressed for the hosts, while Rodrygo and Antonio Rüdiger did for the visitors.
The key moments saw Andriy Lunin make a top save before VAR correctly ruled out Brahim Diaz’s goal for offside in the build-up.
The deadlock broke in the second half when Brahim’s ball over the top found Jude Bellingham. The Englishman perfectly chested the ball down and slotted home his 12th LaLiga goal in 14 games in one smooth motion.
However, Real Betis quickly equalised with a stunner of their own. Aitor Ruibal was left unmarked outside the box and blasted a shot home beyond a diving Lunin.
The remaining half an hour proved to be tense, and with no proper striker, Madrid’s over-reliance on Bellingham for goals was on full display.
The hosts then had a late header from Isco hit off the post before Lunin tipped another header over the bar in the dying moments to hold on for a draw.
The result means Madrid have a one-point lead at the top with Girona and Barcelona licking their lips. Real Betis, meanwhile, sit seventh.
