The last night must have been a rather forgettable one for most of the FC Barcelona team as the Blaugranes fell to a 0-1 defeat to the relegation-threatened Leganes at their own home ground.
However, despite this result, two Barcelona players would still remember this night. One of them will be Alejandro Balde, as it was his 100th match with the first team.
The second will be Lamine Yamal, who was presented with the Golden Boy award by the creator of the award, the prestigious journalist, Massimo Franchi. The trophy will be officially given to him tonight at the Tuttosport Gala in Turin, but as Yamal will not be travelling for this event, he was given his award early.
As Mundo Deportivo has reported, the youngster also appeared in an interview with Tuttosport, the newspaper that gives this award. In this interview, Yamal set some clear objectives for himself for the coming few years:
“Before turning 21, my goal is to win the World Cup with Spain, the Champions League, and two more La Liga titles with Barça.”
The young winger also expressed his gratitude for winning this prestigious award:
“It is an honor to receive this Golden Boy award. It represents the first step in what I hope will be a great career. I fully understand that individual awards are a result of collective effort, so I aim to keep performing well for Barça and Spain to achieve more team and individual trophies.
Winning the Golden Boy is a fantastic starting point for a young footballer. Every young player in the world dreams of earning this award.”
After winning the Golden Boy award, the Barcelona gem had his mind set on another glittering prize:
“If I win with Barça, especially the Champions League, I will have a greater chance of competing for the ultimate individual trophy in a player’s career: the Ballon d’Or. No player achieves individual accolades without collective success with their team. Winning as a team brings me closer to individual awards, as one naturally leads to the other.”
Lamine Yamal has been a special winner of this award, as he received 488 votes as compared to Jude Bellingham’s 485 votes, out of a total of 500, last year. Furthermore, at 17 years, 4 months, and 14 days, he is the youngest player to have received this award.
