On Sunday evening Club Brugge head coach Nicky Hayen was the winner of the Raymond Goethals trophy. The former Waasland Beveren head coach beat the likes of Bayern Munich’s Vincent Kompany, who came in second place. Timmy Simons, who earned promotion with Dender before moving to Westerlo in the summer, came in third place, The Raymond Goethals trophy is awarded to the best Belgian head coach of the calendar year.

It has been quite the year for Hayen, who was managing the Club second team for the opening few months of the year. However, after taking over from Rony Deila, Hayen guided Club to the semi-finals of the conference league and turned their season around domestically. Thanks to the play-offs, Club still had an outside chance of the title despite finishing well off the pace. Hayen guided the side to an excellent play-offs that saw them surge to their 19th league title in the sides history.

Kompany’s appointment at Bayern following his time with Burnley and Anderlecht certainly raised a few eyebrows this summer. The former Manchester City captain has guided the Bundesliga side to the top of the table in Germany, with 10 wins, three draws and one defeat so far this season. In Europe, the side have won four of their six games and sit just outside the top eight in the Champions League.
