Bayern Munich star Matthijs de Ligt bestowed the ultimate compliment on a member of the attacking ranks at Real Madrid, on the back of the meeting between the sides on Wednesday.

The player in question? Vinícius Jr.

Wide-man Vinícius has of course seen his name take its place front and centre in the headlines across Europe since late last night.

As much comes after the Brazilian was responsible for an individual masterclass, in his side’s meeting with the aforementioned Bayern.

En route to Real Madrid booking their spot in the Champions League final, Vinícius terrorised the German heavyweights’ backline, taking the creative responsibility of an at-times blunt Blancos attack firmly on his back.

Speaking to the media on the back of the full-time whistle at the Santiago Bernabéu, the subject of the performance put forth by Real’s explosive wide-man was in turn put to Bayern stalwart Matthijs de Ligt.

And, in his response, the Dutchman went on to add to the mounting claims that Vinícius, owing to his recent form, stands above all others as world football’s very best at this moment in time:

“Vinicius? For me, maybe now he is the best player in the world.”
