Bayern Munich make the trip to Celtic this evening in the Champions League’s play-off round.
After missing out on automatic progress to the Round of 16, Bayern now must navigated a two-legged tie with the Scottish champions.
The German giants head into the contest in good mood after extending their lead in the Bundesliga to eight points at the weekend. Harry Kane was on target twice from the penalty spot as Werder Bremen were beaten at the Allianz Arena.
However, Bayern need to improve a poor record on the road in this competition. Defeats at Barcelona, Aston Villa and Feyenoord contributed to their failure to finish in the top eight of the league phase.
In contrast, Celtic are unbeaten in four home games in Europe. That run includes the scalp of RB Leipzig at Celtic Park in November. Brendan Rodgers’ side, who are into the Champions League knockout rounds for the first time since 2012/13, are chasing a domestic treble.
Vincent Kompany will be without Joao Palhinha and Alphonso Davies for the trip to Celtic. Neither player has travelled, with the former out through illness and Davies nursing a hamstring injury.
Serge Gnarby is expected to have shaken off an illness to feature. Hiroki Ito is nearing his return to action. The defender is yet to debut since his summer arrival from Stuttgart due to a metatarsal fracture.
Celtic predicted XI: Neuer; Boey, Upamecano, Kim, Guerreiro; Kimmich, Laimer; Olise, Musiala, Sane; Kane.
Celtic host Bayern Munich in the Champions League’s play-off round on Wednesday February 12th 2025. Kick-off at Celtic Park is 20:00 GMT.
Celtic vs Bayern Munich will be available to watch on TNT Sports 2 and Discovery+.
