Arsenal have shown clear signs of ambition in recent markets, but the lack of a decisive attacker has been a constant stumbling block. Season after season, the London side have struggled to hold their own in the home straight of the Premier League, and the attacking line continues to generate doubts.

The likes of Bukayo Saka and Martin Ødegaard have carried much of the creative weight, but the team needs more quality on the flanks. Gabriel Martinelli, with marked ups and downs in the previous campaign, was one of the players who failed to reach the expected level. Even so, he remains an important figure for his speed and aggressiveness in the final third. The market is now open and rumours are once again swirling around the Emirates.

Bayern Munich want to sign Arsenal attacker with 16 goal contributions last year

As reported by CFBayernInsider, Bayern Munich have made contact with Gabriel Martinelli, and the German club could submit a formal offer in the coming days. Although the Brazilian did not shine as expected last season, he registered 16 goal contributions in all competitions.

That’s not a low figure, but it wasn’t enough to make a difference in a title race either. Arsenal have not yet managed to bring in an attacker with pace, and allowing Martinelli to leave without first securing a strong arrival would be a high-risk decision. As such, there are as yet no clear signs that the London club are willing to open the door for the Brazilian to leave.

Opinion:

Arsenal must take the sale of Martinelli very seriously. The Brazilian, although inconsistent in the last season, has shown in the past that he can be decisive. His age is in his favour, but the demands of the club and the fans do not give too much leeway.

If Bayern come in with a strong offer, it could be tempting for the club’s coffers. However, the underlying problem remains: there are no replacements ready, no signings in place. Letting Martinelli go without a quality replacement would be to further weaken an already limited area. Instead of thinking about selling, the club should focus on giving the player support and confidence. Strengthening the competition in his area is a more logical option than simply doing without him.

Martinelli can bounce back. He has done it before. He has an eye for goal, an edge, and above all, a hunger. His slump had more to do with collective dynamics than a permanent drop in level. If Arsenal can add a centre-forward who offers clear attacking outlet, the Brazilian will have more space and freedom.

Blocking his exit is not stubbornness, but an act of planning. Rather than a sale, Arsenal need to add quality, not subtract. In that sense, giving in to Bayern’s interest would be a sign of weakness and short-sightedness. If there is one thing that has plagued the team in recent seasons, it is the lack of real attacking alternatives. Now is not the time to repeat that mistake.
