Liverpool’s summer transfer window has taken another dramatic twist, with Sky Sports reporting Bayern Munich’s growing determination to sign Luis Díaz. According to Florian Plettenberg of Sky in Germany, Bayern are in “constant talks” with Liverpool and are preparing to improve their initial €67 million offer for the Colombian winger.
With Barcelona also interested but struggling due to registration issues, Bayern have emerged as the clear front-runners to secure Díaz.
Bayern’s pursuit has been far from casual. As Plettenberg reports, the German giants have held “very positive talks with Luis Díaz” and have outlined a long-term contract running until at least 2029. This shows Bayern’s commitment to making Díaz their key figure on the left wing, with Plettenberg noting, “Diaz right now is the clear priority, the No 1 target for the left wing.”

For Liverpool, this is a significant development. Under Arne Slot, who masterminded a Premier League title win in his debut season, the club has shown resilience and adaptability. However, selling Díaz would leave a gap in their attacking setup, particularly given his ability to unlock defences and produce game-changing moments.
Sky Sports’ report highlights that Liverpool see Díaz as “a candidate for sale” and have set a price Bayern are well aware of. The Premier League champions are no strangers to balancing football ambition with financial pragmatism. A deal north of €70 million could give Slot funds to bolster his squad further, possibly adding depth in midfield or reinforcing defensive areas.
However, there is an underlying question: can Liverpool truly afford to lose Díaz at this moment? His contribution to last season’s title charge was invaluable, and with rivals strengthening, some fans may wonder if offloading him is a risk too far.
Interestingly, Barcelona’s interest appears to have hit a brick wall. As Plettenberg put it, “they can pay the money for Luis Diaz, but they cannot register him,” making Bayern’s path clearer. This European dynamic adds urgency to Bayern’s pursuit and perhaps explains why an improved bid is expected “very, very soon.”
Liverpool’s decision now pivots on sporting priorities versus financial temptation. Slot’s squad, brimming with energy and talent, will surely feel Díaz’s absence if he leaves, no matter the price.
From a Liverpool supporter’s perspective, this report stirs mixed emotions. Luis Díaz has become a fan favourite at Anfield, known for his flair, work rate and decisive goals in big games. Many supporters would argue that selling him after winning the league feels counterintuitive.
While €70 million or more is a hefty fee, fans trust Arne Slot’s judgment. His first season delivered silverware and restored Liverpool to the top of English football. If Slot agrees to the sale, many will hope it is part of a broader plan, perhaps to rejuvenate the squad or address areas of weakness.
However, there is also caution. Selling to Bayern, a European rival, carries risk. If Díaz thrives in Germany, questions will be asked. Can Cody Gakpo or Florian Wirtz fill his shoes consistently? Will a new signing arrive to match Díaz’s direct style?
For now, fans are watching closely. This is not just about money, it is about ambition. Liverpool are back on their perch, and the Anfield faithful will want it to stay that way. Díaz’s future may well shape their chances of doing so.
