Bayern Munich target Nico Williams has extended his contract at Athletic Club, the La Liga side has confirmed.
The Bundesliga champions were in pursuit of the Spanish sensation, having submitted an improved contract offer of €10m a year.
Bayern’s sporting director, Max Eberl, even left the Club World Cup briefly to try and persuade the 22-year-old winger to join the club.
However, the efforts are now in vain as the youngster has officially extended his stay at Athletic Club until 2035, an eight-year extension on his current deal.
The agreement includes a new release clause of +50%, in comparison to the €58m that was included in his previous contract. What’s more, the player will receive a salary increase within the new deal.
Bayern’s search for a new winger continues. As previously reported by GGFN, the Bavarians are now monitoring the situations surrounding both Jack Grealish at Manchester City and Marcus Rashford at Manchester United. Both are looking for new opportunities elsewhere this summer.
