Pep Guardiola has once again come out in support of Jack Grealish amid an uncertain summer for the Manchester City forward, speaking during his latest press conference.
The former Aston Villa captain was arguably the most notable absentee from Manchester City’s travelling squad list for this summer’s tournament, after a decision was taken to allow the player to decide upon his next steps in his career.
After a four-year association between Grealish and Manchester City, winning all of football’s biggest club honours along the way, the 2025 summer market has been deemed as the natural parting of ways between both parties.
The England international is in agreement himself, feeling as though a new opportunity and challenge in his top-level career is essential when it comes to trying to break into Thomas Tuchel’s Three Lions’ plans ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
But with several weeks having now past, there is little further clarity around what the future holds for Jack Grealish, with many anticipating that a temporary switch is more likely than a permanent exit from the Etihad Stadium.
Speaking to the media from the Camping World Stadium on Thursday night, Bayern Munich’s ongoing search for a new winger was put to manager Pep Guardiola, who opted to respond by issuing firm praise on Grealish when the Englishman’s name was mentioned as an option.
“I’ve said many times, the guys who have been together for many years, always I wish them the best. I want the best for Jack, for his partner, and his kids and family – I want the best. I don’t know what’s going to happen right now,” Guardiola said.
The Manchester City manager continued on the 29-year-old, “I don’t have ANY doubts about the quality of Jack [Grealish], the quality has always been there! The year of the Treble that we won, without him it would not have been possible. He’s a top, top, top player.
“But the players compete between each other and last season [Jeremy] Doku was incredible in many games, and Savinho made a step up in his first season, and the only reason he didn’t play minutes was me, not because he was incorrect or whatever.
“At the end, every season is every season and they have to compete with each other, and the players this season have to do it.”
For now, there is nothing to suggest that Vincent Kompany and Bayern Munich – who are currently competing at the Club World Cup – would be interested in any sort of deal for Manchester City’s Grealish.
In fact, there is a very limited list of clubs that have been tied with interest in the City star, with possible options named from within the Premier League and further afield including within Serie A.
Among those in the English top-flight, there have been various levels of interest from the likes of Everton, Newcastle United, and Tottenham Hotspur, while some reports have indicated Italian champions Napoli as a possible destination.
