On Friday evening, Bayern Munich welcomed Werder Bremen to the Allianz Arena for match day 21 of the current Bundesliga campaign. The Bavarian club has enjoyed a flawless record in the league since the start of 2025.
For the task at hand, Vincent Kompany opted for the following lineup;
Neuer - Boey, Upamecano, Kim, Guerreiro - Kimmich, Pavlovic - Olise, Musiala, Sane - Kane.
The host made a steady start to the game, but the first big chance came after a quarter of an hour was over in the game. After 17 minutes, Michael Olise slipped Jamal Musiala through on goal but couldn’t knock the ball past the goalkeeper from a tight angle. Perhaps he could have squared the ball back for Harry Kane.
Midway through the first half, a quick Bremen counter led to a deflected shot going wide for a corner, which Bayern eventually cleared after a few attempts.
With seven minutes of the first half remaining, an outstretched Musiala cross was met by Kane, but it was an awkward one to meet and his header only went as far as Kingsley Coman out on the left. Bayern lacked serious cutting-edge in the final third.
In stoppage time, a flicked header from Kane missed the target by inches. Poor finishing let both sides down in the first half as it remained 0-0 at the break.
Within the first minute of the second half, Musiala had a rare opportunity to find some space in the middle, laying the ball off to Kane, who cannoned an effort onto the crossbar. The closest Bayern had come all night to break the deadlock.
Just under ten minutes into the second half, Bayern were awarded a penalty for a handball. From the spot, Kane cooly converted into the bottom corner for his 20th Bundesliga goal of the season.
After 59 minutes, Olise slipped Kane through on goal, but he could, somehow, not convert from very close range. Very unlike the England skipper. Midway through the second half, a bullet header from Dayot Upamecano was kept away by the visiting goalkeeper through an astonishing save.
With eighteen minutes remaining, Kompany made his first change, as Konrad Laimer replaced Sacha Boey at right-back. position For the final ten minutes, Leroy Sane and Leon Goretzka replaced Kingsley Coman and Aleksandar Pavlovic.
Within 70 seconds, Sane made it 2-0. After good work from Musiala to set Laimer away down the right, he waited patiently for a man to find, and Sane had superbly peeled off at the back post, tapping home from close range.
With a minute of normal time remaining, Josip Stanisic replaced Raphael Guerreiro for Bayern’s final change. They had one sub left to make, but no more substitute windows to make the change.
In stoppage time, an exquisite Olise through ball put Laimer clean through on goal. Meanwhile, Kane was given a chance to score his second goal after a delightful cross from Joshua Kimmich. On both occasions, chances were not converted.
In stoppage time, Bayern had their second penalty of the night, after Musiala was tripped. From the spot, you know the rest. Goal number 21 of the season for Kane, with the final kick of the game.
Ahead of the big game against Bayer Leverkusen next weekend, Bayern continued to strengthen their confidence by beating Werder Bremen with an eventual comfortable scoreline.
