Barcelona forward Marc Guiu is on the brink of completing his move to Chelsea as it has emerged that he has successfully passed his medical examination at the club, paving the way for his €6 million transfer to the Premier League club.

According to Mundo Deportivo, this move is nearly complete, pending an official announcement, and Guiu is set to sign a six-year contract with Chelsea.

It is suggested that Barcelona had made concerted efforts to retain the young talent. They recognised his potential and tried to keep him within their ranks by offering him an improved salary and a higher release clause.

Over the past few months, Barcelona presented more than two proposals to Guiu, hoping to persuade him to stay. These offers were generous and reflected the club’s desire to have him continue his development at Camp Nou.

However, despite their determined efforts and lucrative offers, Guiu had already made up his mind. The allure of playing in the Premier League, along with the opportunities that come with joining a club like Chelsea, proved too tempting for the young forward.

A loan move is on the cards

Interestingly, recent developments suggest that Guiu’s journey at Chelsea might start differently than expected. While he is joining with hopes of breaking into the first team, there are indications that Chelsea might loan him out during his initial season.

Strasbourg in Ligue 1 have emerged as a possible destination for such a loan move. and the reason behind this potential loan is Chelsea’s current depth in the forward positions.

The club already has several established forwards, and Guiu, being relatively inexperienced at the top-flight level, might benefit from regular playing time elsewhere to hone his skills and gain valuable experience.

Guiu’s decision to leave Barcelona likely stems from concerns about his playing time at the club as well.

Barcelona’s squad boasts veteran forward Robert Lewandowski and his likely deputy, Vitor Roque. The presence of these established players would have limited Guiu’s opportunities for first-team action.

At Barcelona, he might have faced a scenario where he would be shuttling between the youth team and the senior squad, a situation he was keen to avoid.
