Barcelona are preparing for a significant decision regarding Andreas Christensen’s future, as reports from MARCA suggest the club intends to sell him in the upcoming transfer window.

With that in mind, the coaching staff believes it is crucial for the Danish defender to return to action before the season ends.

They want him to demonstrate that he has fully recovered from his injuries and is capable of performing at the highest level for years to come.

Christensen has hardly played this season

The 2024-25 campaign has been nothing short of a nightmare for Christensen. He has managed to play just 26 minutes this season due to persistent injury problems.

His struggles began right from the first La Liga match in August, and the most serious issue—an Achilles tendon problem—became severe enough to require surgery.

Even last season, the centre-back had difficulty staying fit, often playing through pain to contribute to the team.

While Barcelona’s squad planning for the future is not yet fully settled, Christensen remains one of the players the club is actively looking to move on.

In fact, he has been available for transfer in the last two windows, particularly in January, when the club explored opportunities to sell him.

Their stance remains unchanged—Barcelona want to avoid losing him on a free transfer when his contract expires in 2026 and will prioritise finding a buyer this summer.

Defensive reinforcement will arrive

At the same time, the Catalan side is already looking at reinforcements for the defensive line. One of their key targets is Jonathan Tah, and Christensen’s potential departure is linked to their efforts to bring in a new centre-back.

However, the Danish defender has so far shown little interest in leaving before the end of his contract, which is why Barcelona are considering all possible options to avoid losing him for nothing.

For now, the club believes that if they are to finalise a transfer for Christensen, he must get some playing time before the season concludes.

This would help prove his fitness and make it easier to negotiate a move in the summer.
