Barcelona star Lewandowski names Real Madrid legend as toughest-ever opponent | OneFootball

Barcelona star Robert Lewandowski has this week pointed towards a former member of the defensive ranks at arch rivals Real Madrid as the toughest opponent of his career.

The player in question? Sergio Ramos.

Ex-Spanish international Ramos has of course long been held in high regard, as one of the standout defenders of the modern era.

Across a glittering 16-year stint on the books of Real Madrid, the now-38-year-old racked up every possible piece of silverware, including five La Liga titles, and four Champions League crowns.

His leadership abilities and man-to-man defending were hailed throughout this stint, with the aforementioned Robert Lewandowski, on Thursday, having added his name to the list of Ramos’ appreciators.

Speaking during an appearance on ‘Rio Ferdinand Presents’, veteran Barcelona frontman Lewandowski explained:

“My favourite and most difficult battle? Against Sergio Ramos.

“Playing against him was a huge challenge, he always played hard and strong. He always wanted to be close to me, and that for me was wow.”
