Al Nassr have reached an agreement to sign Barcelona defender Inigo Martinez on a free transfer (h/t journalist Fabrizio Romano).
He will sign a one-year contract with the Saudi Pro League giants until 2026 with an option for another season.
Despite signing an extension earlier this year, the Spanish centre-back has terminated his contract with the Catalan giants.
Martinez had an agreement with Barca to leave for free in the event of a lucrative offer.
He was initially expected to spearhead the defence this season following a sensational 2024/25 campaign.
Martinez played a key role alongside Pau Cubarsi in the heart of the defence as Barcelona won the treble last term.
The 34-year-old struggled with injuries in his debut season after arriving on a free transfer from Athletic Bilbao, but he proved to be a bargain after showcasing his excellent form last term.
He established himself as one of Europe’s elite centre-backs and became a fan favourite, underscored by his passion and leadership qualities.
Al-Nassr identified Martinez as a potential replacement for his compatriot Aymeric Laporte, who has been linked with a return to Athletic Club.
Barca will free up a significant space in the wage bill with Martinez’s departure. It will help them to register new signings, including Joan Garcia and Marcus Rashford.
However, the Catalan giants are unlikely to invest in a new centre-back due to their financial situation.
Uruguayan centre-back Ronald Araujo’s importance will grow as he has the complete backing of manager Hansi Flick.
Barca could look to keep Andreas Christensen, and Eric Garcia will also shore up the defence.
