In a season where the likes of Lamine Yamal and Raphinha deservedly got all the attention for their performances at Barcelona, Pedri was an unsung hero of sorts for the Catalan outfit.

The young midfielder masterfully moved on from his injury woes to become an ever-present figure in Barcelona’s midfield under Hansi Flick.

The youngster offered stability and control in the middle of the park throughout the season, thus allowing the likes of Frenkie de Jong and other creative players to be more expressive in the final third.

Szczesny heaps praise on Pedri

Pedri’s performances have not gone unnoticed, with his Barcelona teammate Wojciech Szczesny heaping praise on the midfielder.

In a recent interaction with Foot Truck, the Pole hailed Pedri’s performances throughout the course of last season.

“What Pedri did this season. I’ve never seen a season like that from any player. Watching him live, seeing how he controls the game both defensively and offensively. Incredible,” he said.

Pedri was indeed a livewire for Barcelona throughout the season, notably racking up 4,646 minutes of action in all competitions.

The only player who played more for Barcelona last season was Raphinha, who featured in 15 more minutes than the Spanish international.

But more than his sheer prominence in the Barça team, what impressed Szczesny the most was Pedri’s quality on the pitch.

“He’s the player who’s impressed me the most in my entire life. I don’t know what makes up his genius, but he doesn’t lose the ball,” he concluded.

Earlier in the summer, even PSG’s Fabian Ruiz had heaped praise on Pedri, who is likely to finish inside the top seven in the Ballon d’Or gala later this year.

Going forward, one would expect Pedri to play an equally important role for Barcelona next season as the Catalans now look to not only retain the league title but also win the Champions League.
