Barcelona remain vigilant to the emergence of young talents with immense potential so as to sign them and nurture them at La Masia.
As part of the strategy, the Blaugrana have now completed the signing of Ibrahim Babayev, a 17-year-old midfield prospect from Swiss club Servette, reports Mundo Deportivo.
The Azerbaijani prospect, who also holds Swiss nationality, had been training with Barça’s Juvenil B outfit for several days as part of a trial.
Having made a solid impression on those at La Masia, Babayev has signed for Barcelona permanently.
The midfielder formalised his contract today alongside Joan Soler, director of youth football, and Jose Ramon Alexanco, head of the club’s academy.
A central midfielder by trade, Babayev arrives from the youth team of Servette in Geneva, where he had been based until now.
Prior to that, he spent time within the youth ranks of Geneve before making the switch to Servette in 2021. Now, he takes the step of becoming the first player from Azerbaijan to wear the Barcelona shirt.
Already an Under-17 international with his country, Azerbaijan, Babayev will train with the youth team at Barcelona with the hope within the club being that he can develop and flourish in the coming years.
