In recent hours, Inter Milan right-back Denzel Dumfries has emerged as a player of interest for FC Barcelona.

As reported by Fabrizio Romano, the 29-year-old Netherlands international has a €25 million release clause, and Barça have shown interest in his situation, although no formal offer has been made.

Barcelona see Dumfries as a good fit

Building on that, Mundo Deportivo now reports that Barcelona consider Dumfries as a good fit for their plans to reinforce the right-back position.

As has been reported, manager Hansi Flick has requested a new player at right-back to provide cover and competition for Jules Kounde.

The sporting department, however, will only sign a right-sided full-back if the player is considered top-level and decisive.

Options such as Vanderson, Andrei Ratiu, or Marc Pubill, who have been linked with the Catalans in the past, do not align with the criteria for this position for various reasons.

However, Dumfries is seen as someone who fits the profile Barcelona are seeking.

From a sporting perspective, the Dutchman’s arrival would be a strong fit and consistent with the club’s stated plan: to only sign a right-back if the player brings a clear added value to the squad.

Signing dependent on FFP

However, Dumfries’ signing would depend on Barcelona’s ability to balance the books, both in terms of the transfer fee and registration under La Liga’s Financial Fair Play regulations.

It is important to note that the La Liga champions are still working to return to the 1:1 rule for transfers and salary spending, and several player exits remain unresolved. The situation has raised concerns over their ability to register top target Nico Williams.

As such, any move for Dumfries would have to wait until Barça have squared away their Fair Play situation.
