The powers that be at La Liga giants Barcelona are on the verge of tying another of the club’s most highly-regarded young talents down to a new contract.

That’s according to Mundo Deportivo, who point towards Héctor Fort as the player in question.

Full-back Fort, for his part, has of course enjoyed something of a breakout season in Catalunya’s capital.

Though somewhat overshadowed by fellow starlets Lamine Yamal and Pau Cubarsí, when afforded the chance to impress by boss Xavi, the 17-year-old has done precisely that.

All told, Fort has racked up nine senior appearances over the course of the campaign, notching a trio of assists along the way.

The stopper has long proven himself a versatile performer, too, capable of lining out on either side of the back-four.

In turn, recent claims in the media that the Barcelona brass had kicked into gear efforts to tie Fort down to fresh terms came as little surprise.

This comes with his current deal due to expire in the summer of 2025.

And, if the latest word doing the rounds on Tuesday is anything to go by, the negotiations between the parties look set to bear imminent fruit.

As per the aforementioned MD:

‘The conversations between both parties are more than advanced and a total agreement has been reached for the extension of a contract that expires in 2025.’

It is also assured that, despite the pair sharing an agent, Fort’s future at the Camp Nou is not in any way tied to that of the exit-linked Xavi.
