Barcelona starlet Pablo Torre is now on holiday following Spain’s U-21 elimination in the quarter-finals of the UEFA U-21 European Championship, where they lost 1-3 to England.

The attacking midfielder is on Barcelona’s transfer list this summer after playing only 14 games during the 2024-25 season.

The youngster even expressed his dismay at the lack of minutes, stating that he felt manager Hansi Flick was not entirely fair to him. Given the circumstances, an exit is around the corner, with La Liga club RCD Mallorca in talks to sign him.

Sale with a buyback clause

Now, Mundo Deportivo reports that Barcelona’s intention is to sell him but retain some level of control, in case his performance improves significantly in the future.

Torre has a contract with Barcelona until 30 June 2026, which rules out a loan move this summer. As such, the La Liga champions aim to generate some revenue from his departure while including a buy-back clause.

In this context, Mallorca have taken the lead in the race to sign the 22-year-old. Manager Jagoba Arrasate holds a high opinion of Torre.

The player himself prefers to remain in La Liga with a club that has some European ambitions, rather than move abroad.

Barcelona would like to finalise the deal before the 2024-25 financial year closes on Monday, 30 June, although it is not essential for meeting their financial targets.

It must, however, be noted that the fee that Mallorca or any of the other interested clubs would pay is not expected to be substantial.

In terms of Financial Fair Play, though Torre’s departure would help reduce the wage bill, aiding the registrations of Joan Garcia and Nico Williams.
