FC Barcelona and Borussia Dortmund will face off this Wednesday night in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals at Montjuic.

The two teams have already crossed paths once this season in the league phase of the competition, with the Catalans prevailing in a 3-2 win away at Signal Iduna Park.

Hansi Flick & co. will be hoping to secure another victory over the Bundesliga giants tomorrow night and enter the second leg in Germany with an advantage.

Risk of suspension for Inigo Martinez

However, the match comes with added pressure for one Barcelona player who is one booking away from suspension and could miss the crucial return leg at Signal Iduna Park on Tuesday, 15 April.

Indeed, Inigo Martinez is the only Barça player currently at risk of being suspended for accumulation of cards.

The Spanish centre-back is expected to return to the squad after missing the Real Betis match at the weekend due to a minor muscle injury in his left glute.

The veteran ace trained normally on Monday and barring any last-minute setbacks, is likely to start tomorrow against the Black and Yellows.

Martinez has already received two yellow cards in this season’s Champions League campaign – one against Monaco and another in the round of 16 first leg versus Benfica.

A third booking on Wednesday would see him suspended for the second leg in Germany, which would come as a major blow for Barcelona, considering the defender’s importance in Flick’s setup.

As such, Barça will hope that the 33-year-old veteran will keep his discipline and not earn a booking tomorrow, which could lead to him missing the reverse fixture at Signal Iduna Park next week.

So far this season, Martinez has featured in 37 matches across all competitions, registering three goals and five assists.
