Frenkie de Jong’s future at Barcelona is uncertain as he enters the final year of his contract. With several European clubs showing interest, one Premier League team has reportedly made him a top target.
Last October, SPORT revealed that Manchester United, Chelsea, Bayern Munich, and Paris Saint-Germain were all monitoring De Jong’s situation closely.
Though De Jong has expressed his desire to stay at Barcelona, PSG’s history of signing players from the club makes them a strong contender. Barcelona, meanwhile, seem open to selling, with Mundo Deportivo highlighting that financial issues have pushed a new contract further down the list of priorities.
Recently, CaughtOffside reported that Liverpool have discussed their summer transfer plans, with De Jong among the players under consideration. However, his wages could prove to be a stumbling block.
Barcelona are said to be willing to sell De Jong for around €35 million, but his high salary at the Nou Camp has raised concerns for Liverpool and other clubs interested in him.

According to SPORT (h/t Football Espana), Barcelona are aiming to renew Frenkie de Jong’s contract. Sporting director Deco plans to include a release clause similar to the one in Ronald Araujo’s deal.
This comes amid increasing interest from Premier League clubs. The new clause will give De Jong the final say on whether he stays or leaves.
After a frustrating start to the 2024-25 season due to ankle issues, De Jong has impressed Hansi Flick with his solid performances in midfield alongside Pedri and Dani Olmo.
His form has convinced Barcelona’s sporting department of his continued importance to the team. With Flick’s support, De Jong is expected to remain at Barcelona, with the reported release clause set at €80 million.
