Barcelona defender Gerard Martin is set to undergo surgery on Tuesday. He will be operated on for a dislocation at the base of the fifth metacarpal in his right hand by Dr. Mir.

The Catalan defender sustained the injury during Spain’s Under-21 European Championship opener under coach Santi Denia and returned immediately to Barcelona.

After a strong season under Hansi Flick, one in which he gradually earned more playing time and delivered solid performances in key matches at left-back, several English clubs have shown interest.

Wolves and Bournemouth have been linked, although neither has submitted a formal offer to Barcelona’s sporting department.

Gerard Martin uninterested in offers

However, according to SPORT, even if offers do arrive, Martin will not consider or listen to them this summer.

Barcelona would be open to letting the player go for around €15 million, though both Flick and the sporting staff are counting on him.

This is reflected in the club’s decision to extend and improve his contract until 2028, as well as in the fact that he made 42 appearances this past season for the first team, scoring once and providing six assists.

Barça also recognise that, should Martin leave, they would need to sign another left-back to provide cover for Alejandro Balde – something that was not part of the original plan, as they are preparing to integrate youth player Jofre Torrents into the first team in the near future.

Regardless, Martin has no intention of leaving Barcelona. He is thrilled with how his season went and grateful for the trust Flick has shown in him.

A lifelong Barça supporter, playing for the club has always been his dream, and he wants to make the most of the opportunity he now has.

For that reason, the left-back is focused entirely on recovering well from his injury and being ready for pre-season training with Hansi Flick on 13 July. “

The summer is long and the transfer window remains open until September, but all signs point to Martin continuing in a Barcelona shirt.
