Barcelona forward Ferran Torres underwent emergency surgery for appendicitis on Wednesday night and has already begun his recovery.
Thanks to advances in this type of procedure, his return should not be significantly delayed, although recovery times vary from patient to patient and no general timeframe can be confirmed.
What is clear, however, is that he will not play again for Barcelona this season. With only ten days remaining in La Liga, rushing his return would pose an unnecessary risk.
As a result, Ferran will miss Barcelona’s final three league fixtures: tonight’s derby against Espanyol, Sunday’s match vs Villarreal, and the final match on 25 May against Athletic Club.
According to SPORT, however, despite his absence from club action, Ferran Torres is not entirely out of the picture as far as the Spanish national team is concerned.
Indeed, the Barcelona forward could still be fit in time to join La Roja for the UEFA Nations League Final Four.

Spain are set to face France in the Nations League semi-final on 5 June in Stuttgart. The other semi-final, between Germany and Portugal, will be played on 4 June. The final will take place on Sunday, 8 June.
Spain head coach Luis de la Fuente will announce the squad on Monday, 26 May – one day after the domestic league concludes. The national team will then gather at Las Rozas on 31 May.
As such, there is a possibility that Ferran could still be called up to the Spain squad. After all, he remains an essential figure for De la Fuente.
The Spain head coach, who has previously coached Ferran at youth level, considers him a trusted player and values his ability to perform across multiple roles in the front line.
Versatile in attack, Ferran has often served as an impact substitute in high-pressure matches. His statistics with the national team speak for themselves: 21 goals in 48 appearances.
