Real Madrid’s so-called ‘season start’ in February has turned into an embarrassing disaster, proving that premature confidence can be a dangerous thing.
When Los Blancos secured a 3-2 win over Manchester City in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League playoff, midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni proudly declared that Real Madrid’s season truly begins in February.
“At Real Madrid, the season starts in February,” he said. At the time, it may have seemed like a bold yet justifiable statement.
However, as the month unfolded, reality hit hard. Barcelona had already faced their share of criticism for a rough patch earlier in the season, but it now seems Real Madrid have walked straight into the same trap—only worse.
Their so-called ‘big month’ has been nothing short of a disaster, exposing their weaknesses on all fronts.
@BarcaUniversal At this rate,he should've said: "For Real Madrid, the season starts next season." 🤣–
Across five La Liga fixtures in February, Real Madrid have managed just one victory. The remaining matches? Two underwhelming draws and two outright defeats.
A total of five points collected from a possible 15 is hardly the form of a team that supposedly ‘comes alive’ in February. Instead of charging towards the top, they have embarrassingly dropped to third place in the league standings.
Meanwhile, Barcelona have put together a flawless domestic run in February. With four wins out of four in La Liga and a match against Real Sociedad still to be played, the Catalan giants have made a strong statement.
While Real Madrid were busy making empty declarations, Barcelona quietly went about their business, securing valuable points and asserting dominance.
It turns out that February did mark a turning point in the season—just not in the way Real Madrid imagined. The only thing they have ‘started’ is their own downfall, while Barcelona continue to strengthen their grip in the league.
Perhaps next time, it would be wiser for them to let their performances do the talking instead of setting themselves up for humiliation.
