There is a bit of anxiety and uncertainty in the Barcelona camp as they approach the May 11 Clasico against Real Madrid.

It will be a decisive game for the Catalans, knowing that another victory over their arch-rivals could help them almost seal the league title.

However, coach Hansi Flick is encountering many challenges heading into this contest, especially after Barcelona’s defeat to Inter Milan in midweek.

While morale has been hit, Barcelona may also face problems with fitness, particularly with regard to star striker Robert Lewandowski.

Barcelona’s dilemma with Lewandowski

As reported by SPORT, Flick is facing a major selection dilemma in the attacking unit. He is particularly unsure about whether or not to start Lewandowski.

The veteran forward came on during injury time against Inter Milan and played the extra time. But he looked far from fit, having only recently made a return from injury.

Lewandowski, for his part, believes he is fully fit, though, and can start in the Real Madrid game this weekend.

But Barcelona are uncertain, knowing they cannot risk the Pole aggravating his injury heading into the final stretch of the season.

Lewandowski’s injury also raises a broader concern surrounding his long-term fitness. This recent injury is sure to have a bearing on the Pole’s near-term fitness and keeping that in mind, one may think Barcelona should sign a proper alternative this summer.

Flick does have Ferran Torres as a viable alternative for Lewandowski, but replacing the Pole has always proven to be a difficult task for any side, let alone Barcelona.

Therefore, it will be interesting to see how Flick tackles this dilemma heading into this weekend’s El Clasico.
