Despite being ever-so-close to being handed out a contract renewal under the stewardship of former coach Xavi Hernandez, Sergi Roberto now finds himself facing an uncertain future at Barcelona.
The Catalans’ tussles with Financial Fair Play and Roberto’s waning status in the pecking order have led to Barça being more receptive to his departure as a free agent.
Roberto has been without a club since June 30, awaiting a renewal offer that hinges on Barcelona’s compliance with Financial Fair Play regulations. Failure to meet these standards could force the club to contemplate his departure.
However, the Barcelona captain is unwilling to leave his future up in the air and dependent on external uncertainties.
Consequently, as per MARCA, Sergi Roberto has set a deadline of July 10, coinciding with the team’s return to training, for Barcelona to finalize his future with the club.

Following this, there remains the possibility of extending the deadline or accepting an alternative offer.
The veteran midfielder understandably is seeking more assurance and clarity over his future and hopes to avoid an outcome that imperils his chances of joining another team in the event a renewal offer is not realized.
Indeed, the report further adds that Roma, Juventus, and Inter Milan have all expressed keen interest in signing Roberto as a free agent this summer.
Furthermore, it has been mentioned previously that the 32-year-old has also amassed interest from teams in the Premier League and La Liga as well.
It remains to be seen if he manages to stay put at his boyhood club, but the player is starting to seek more clarity as the start of next season is in sight.
