Athletic Club’s Nico Williams has caught the eye of many top European clubs after an impressive 2023-24 season with the Spanish side. Williams featured in 37 matches across all competitions, scoring nine goals and providing 19 assists.

According to a recent report from CaughtOffside, Williams has caught the interest of several top clubs, including Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United, Tottenham, Barcelona, and PSG.

However, Barcelona might have the biggest hurdle of the clubs keen on the 21-year-old. Recently, SPORT reported that Athletic are unwilling to negotiate with the Catalan team and is referring to the termination clause.

There has been talk that Barça wanted to pay the total amount in several installments, something that their La Liga rival will not accept either. Moreover, SPORT reports (h/t Diario AS) that some people in Barcelona are skeptical about signing Nico Williams.

They believe that even though the Athletic player knew Barcelona was interested last season, he still chose to renew his contract with the Basque team.

Moreover, some board members think his decision to stay with Athletic has put Barcelona at a disadvantage, as they now have to negotiate with the Basque club.
