Roma coach Daniele De Rossi had tried to sign midfielder Davide Frattesi from Inter Milan at the start of the transfer window.

This according to today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews.

As the Corriere notes, De Rossi is still not entirely happy with the midfield situation at the Stadio Olimpico.

At the moment the big question mark is Bryan Cristante.

The former Atalanta midfielder has had a particularly tough start to the season as the Giallorossi had stumbled badly in their first two matches.

Roma drew against Cagliari in their first match of the campaign. Then in their first home match they fell to a shock 0-2 defeat against Empoli.

With only a few days left to go in the window, it looks unlikely that a move away for Cristante will happen. Let alone Roma signing a replacement for the 29-year-old.

But as the Corriere reveals, De Rossi had already tried to sign another Italian international to bolster the team in central areas.

De Rossi Had Tried To Sign Davide Frattesi To Roma

According to the Corriere, De Rossi had personally called Inter midfielder Frattesi in June.

Frattesi is not exactly a player who has looked close to the exit door at Inter.

The Nerazzurri only signed the 24-year-old last summer. He was their big summer signing in midfield.

However, Frattesi has not yet broken into Inter’s starting eleven.

Last season, the former Sassuolo midfielder played as a substitute more often than as a starter.

And so far this season it has been the same story. Frattesi has played in both of Inter’s opening matches, but from the bench both times.

So De Rossi took at shot at convincing Frattesi to make the move to Roma.

The Italian international could very well receive a more prominent place in the Giallorossi squad.

However, the Corriere affirm, the interest never went anywhere. Frattesi made clear that he wanted to stay at Inter.
