Real Madrid made an offer for Inter Milan defender Alessandro Bastoni last summer, but it was rejected out of hand.

This according to Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo, via FCInterNews. The outlet report that Los Blancos made clear that they would not be able to go higher than €30-40 million with their bid, far too low for the Nerazzurri.

Bastoni is certainly a player who has suitors in the transfer market.

The likes of Manchester City, Tottenham Hotspur, Paris Saint-Germain, Juventus, and Bayern Munich among others have all shown interest in the Italian international.

However, the Nerazzurri would not let the Italian international go for cheap.

Bastoni is a pillar of Inter’s defense for several years. He has been even since he was a teenager.

Bastoni is a player who perfectly suits the Nerazzurri’s style of play.

The 25-year-old has the right profile to play on the left side of a back three. And that is the system that Inter have been using since the start of the 2019-20 season.

It was Antonio Conte who first had Inter switch to a back three. He implemented a 3-5-2 formation at the Nerazzurri, and quickly made Bastoni a regular starter.

And under Simone Inzaghi, Bastoni has only grown in importance.

The 25-year-old has formed a formidable left-sided united on both sides of the ball alongside the likes of Federico Dimarco and Henrikh Mkhitaryan.

Real Madrid Had Alessandro Bastoni Offer Rebuffed Last Summer

According to Spanish outlet MundoDeportivo, last summer La Liga giants Real Madrid showed an interest in Bastoni.

The Spaniards identified the Inter defender as a potentially high-quality reinforcement for their defense.

However, Real were not willing to break the bank to sign the Italian international.

Inter may be willing to listen to offers for Bastoni. The former Atalanta and Parma defender is not truly “unsellable.”

However, the Nerazzurri would expect a massive fee for Bastoni.

According to MD, the minimum fee that Inter gave to Real last summer was €80 million.

That asking price was well out of Los Blancos’ price range.

Therefore, Real Madrid’s interest in Bastoni was all but nipped in the bud after their initial approach to Inter.

The Italian stayed at Inter, where he was a key player in winning the Serie A title last season. This was his second Scudetto with the Nerazzurri.
