Auston Trusty looks like the real deal at Celtic

Auston Trusty had a bit of a sticky start to his Celtic career, what with playing out of position and the Dortmund hammering, but as he’s fully settled he’s shown what a terrific player he really is and has been nothing short of superb for Celtic recently.

He fully came to prominence in our backs-to-the-wall display against Atalanta and he’s been a tower of strength ever since. He proved that wasn’t a fluke against RB Leipzig, and yet again last night against Club Brugge where he was one of only a few players who earned pass marks for his overall performance.

Indeed Trusty looks more comfortable playing in his natural position alongside fellow countryman Cameron Carter Vickers, and dare I say it, looks a better player than CCV, well so far at least during the past few months.

I’m not just saying that because of CCV’s unfortunate own goal, but because of his season so far. Don’t get me wrong he’s still one of the first names on my team sheet and a very important player to us, but his season has been disrupted by injury and that’s notably effected him, but I’m more than confident it will pass and he will soon be back to his brilliant best.

In the meantime however, Auston has stepped up and looks a rock in that Celtic defence, and it isn’t an exaggeration to say he’s our most valuable asset in the centre of our defence at this moment in time and he’s now keeping Liam Scales out of the team, with his extra pace being a big factor in that call from Brendan Rodgers.

Trusty wasn’t the summer signing everyone was desperate to see happening but he’s showing that the money paid to Sheffield United was cash well spent.
