Austin FC have completed a deal for USMNT and Monterrey forward Brandon Vázquez, the club announced on Monday.
Vázquez had 14 goals in 46 appearances for Monterrey after making the move down south, though his emergence came with Cincinnati where he scored 28 goals and provided 12 assists across two seasons in MLS.
Austin will reportedly dole out up to $10 million to sign the former Cincinnati star, a club record deal.
The forward appeared set for a move to San Jose earlier in the window, but it was Austin who won the race for the 26-year-old.
“Brandon has already proven to be a goalscorer in both MLS & Liga MX,” said Austin sporting director Rodolfo Borrell.
“His well-known daily dedication to get prepared for games, his passion for the game, and his determination when he competes were key factors when deciding on bringing him to Austin FC.”
After hiring new head coach Nico Estévez in October, Austin has moved on from veteran stars such as Gyasi Zardes, Matt Hedges and Alex Ring.
However, after adding Osman Bukari in a previous club-record deal last summer, the Texas club appear ready to make their move back into the upper echelon of the division.
