Atletico Madrid take on European champions PSG in their first fixture of the Club World Cup this evening.
The two teams collide at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, with each competing in the tournament for the first time.
Atletico Madrid’s season stuttered after a strong start and Diego Simeone will be hoping his team can make an impression on the expanded Club World Cup. The Spanish side did claim a win over PSG in last season’s Champions League, winning 1-0 in Paris.
PSG head into the tournament in confident mood. Luis Enrique’s side won the Champions League for the first time this season, thus qualifying for the next edition of the Club World Cup. Their 5-0 final win over Inter Milan set a new record winning margin.
Diego Simeone has now new injury concerns after the international break. However, he could manage the minutes of his team, with several stars having featured prominently for their national teams.
Alexander Sorloth could be a key figure for Atletico with the Norwegian boasting a brilliant minute-per-goal ratio in 2024/25.
Despite starting just 15 times in La Liga, Sorloth scored 20 goals to finish fourth in the Pichichi race. He netted for Norway against Italy earlier this month.
Atletico Madrid predicted XI: Oblak; Molina, Le Normand, Gimenez, Javi Galan; Simeone, De Paul, Koke, Gallagher; Griezmann, Alvarez.
Paris Saint-Germain face Atletico Madrid in the FIFA Club World Cup on Sunday 15th June 2025. Kick-off in the clash is 8pm BST.
