The Athletic have confirmed that two Chelsea players will be staying in Enzo Maresca’s first team squad this season rather than go on any late loan or permanent moves, or join the U21 group.
There are still some foreign transfer windows open around the globe, so there had been some talk of players potentially still leaving Chelsea and in fact, Fabrizio Romano gave the ‘here we go’ for winger Angelo Gabriel to join Al Nassr in Saudi from Chelsea yesterday.
So some late deals could still happen.
However, there will be no late deals for midfielders Carney Chukwuemeka and/or Cesare Casadei to leave Chelsea this summer. And they will also not be joining the U21 group. That is according to The Athletic at least.
Carney has rarely played under Maresca so far
The Athletic report that Carney Chukwuemeka and Cesare Casadei will stay and be part of the Chelsea first-team squad.
Neither player has featured at all for Maresca yet this season and very rarely in preseason too. I can’t see them getting any game time at all unless there are a lot of injuries.
Chelsea signed Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall this summer too, a player who plays in that same position in the 8 role. For that role, Chelsea also have Enzo Fernandez, Joao Felix, Cole Palmer, and Christopher Nkunku. So add Casadei and Chukwuemeka to that and there is very little chance that they will be starting many games or even getting minutes at all, unless of course they are used for European games. Can’t see it though.
