La Liga outfit Athletic Club have this week announced a pair of personnel blows in the club’s first-team squad.

This comes amid confirmation that both Aitor Paredes and Unai Egiluz have picked up fitness problems.

In the case of the former, the defender has suffered what is described as ‘a strain to the rectus femoris muscle in his left leg’.

Paredes was therefore forced to sit out pre-season training on Thursday, ahead of an incoming spell on the sidelines.

Shifting focus towards fellow stopper Egiluz, and the 23-year-old’s injury is outlined as ‘a sprain to his right knee’.

As much was suffered en route to Athletic’s pre-season friendly defeat at the hands of Real Racing Club on Wednesday.

It is concluded that ‘both players are awaiting further assessment’.

Athletic Club are due to kick their 2025/26 La Liga campaign into gear by way of a meeting with Sevilla in less than three weeks’ time.
