While all eyes were on Chelsea’s Club World Cup game against LAFC last night, there was a little bit of transfer and contract news.

Young goalkeeper prepares for new step up after impressive League 2 season

Simon Johnson of the Athletic – who always seems to have an in with the English goalkeepers at the club, Tweeted that a “new deal for Chelsea ‘keeper Teddy Sharman-Lowe and a season long loan to Bolton are expected to be confirmed tomorrow.”

That would be today, then. Johnson added that the new deal would be a two year deal, with a club option for an extra year. With the club having cut ties with a couple of their young goalkeepers this summer, this shows their faith in the academy product to keep his development goal.

Bolton looks a nice next step, assuming they made assurances that he will be their number one.

Sharman-Lowe continues slow and steady development

Simon Johnson’s Tweet about Teddy Sharman-Lowe’s potential season long loan to Bolton.

Goalkeepers usually have a slower development curve than outfield players as senior teams don’t want to trust them with starts until they know they can be trusted. But TSL is making his way up the ladder, step by step.

After a good season with Havant & Waterlooville in the National League South, he took a move to the National League with Bromley in 2023-2024 which didn’t work out, and saw him recalled after 6 months.

Last season he was back on track, jumping up to be a regular with Doncaster Rovers in League 2. A strong campaign from them has brought this interest from Bolton, who were competing towards the top of League One last season.

Do well here and he could be in the Championship before long, and then people will really be taking an interest in the England U21 capped stopper.
