Roma will qualify for the Champions League if Atalanta finish outside the top four in the Serie A ranking, so the Giallorossi must also keep a close eye on Bologna and Juventus. But which results do they need?

Atalanta’s Europa League victory means Roma can become the sixth Serie A club to play in the Champions League next season, but Daniele De Rossi’s side need La Dea to finish outside the top four in the domestic ranking.

As things stand, Bologna and Juventus are level on 68 points, two more than Atalanta, but La Dea have a game in hand, which they will play on June 2 against Fiorentina in Bergamo.

Bologna will visit Genoa at Marassi tomorrow, Juventus will host Monza on Saturday and Atalanta meet Torino at home on Sunday.

If all three win their upcoming games or get the same result, then Roma must hope Atalanta don’t beat Fiorentina in the final match of the campaign next month.

If Juventus and Bologna win the final game of the season and Atalanta don’t beat Torino, then Roma will be automatically qualified for the Champions League before La Dea’s game with Fiorentina.

If Atalanta finish level on points with Juventus, they will end up above the Bianconeri because they have the same points won in head-to-head, the same goal difference in head-to-head but a better overall goal difference.

On the contrary, Bologna have the edge on Atalanta in head-to-head, having beaten the Nerazzurri twice this season.

This means that if Juventus don’t win against Monza and Atalanta beat Torino, Roma won’t qualify for the Champions League, while the Bianconeri will qualify for the next season’s tournament as the fifth Serie A club.
