Newcastle have won each of their last three meetings with Aston Villa, seeking four successive victories in this fixture for the first time since 1995.
Prior to their victory at Villa Park last season, the Magpies had lost four successive visits there.
This is a huge game in the race for Champions League qualification, so who will claim three priceless points in the Midlands? Of the two, it's Newcastle United who kick off four places and five points better off, and the Toon Army have certainly had an enjoyable week. Last Sunday, the Magpies smashed Manchester United 4-1 before, on Wednesday night, they demolished Crystal Palace 5-0.
Jacob Murphy, Harvey Barnes, Fabian Schär and Alexander Isak all on target in mid-week, meaning the Magpies have now won five successive Premier League games. Eddie Howe will once again not be present on the sidelines, after being diagnosed with pneumonia last week, but they're doing pretty well without him under Jason Tindall's stewardship. These wins have propelled Newcastle up to third, so will they take another gigantic step towards Champions League qualification here?
As for Aston Villa, they crashed out of this season's Champions League on Tuesday on, what was, a very emotional evening at Villa Park. The Claret and Blue Army found themselves 5-1 down on aggregate against Paris Saint-Germain at one stage, only to, very nearly, pull off an all-time comeback. Youri Tielemans, John McGinn and Ezri Konsa all scored in quick succession, setting up a grand-stand finish, but Unai Emery's team ultimately just fell short.
Now, the Villans are aiming to get back into next season's Champions League, but they need victories to achieve this. Last weekend's 3-0 hammering of Southampton made it four successive Premier League wins for Villa, who have climbed up to seventh, just a point outside the top five. This is the start of a crucial week for Emery's men, who visit Manchester City on Tuesday, before taking on Crystal Palace in the FA Cup semi-finals at Wembley in a week's time. So, can the Claret and Blue Army make home advantage count on Saturday evening?
Unai Emery boast plenty of squad depth which he will need, considering that games continue to come thick and fast for Villa. Marcus Rashford has led the line for the last three matches, but will Ollie Watkins return this time, with Jacob Ramsey and Marco Asensio amongst those hopeful of a recall.
Marcus Rashford has previously netted five times against Newcastle, only scoring against six clubs more frequently, so can he add to that tally?
Once again led by Jason Tindall, Newcastle's lineup remains settled, due to a combination of excellent form and limited options. Harvey Barnes' scoring spree continued in mid-week, that's now four in three games, currently keeping Anthony Gordon on the bench. Unless he returns, an unchanged XI will be deployed for the third time in seven days, although both Dan Burn and Joelinton are one booking away from a two-match suspension.
Newcastle United predicted lineup vs Aston Villa: (4-3-3): Pope; Trippier, Schär, Burn, Livramento; Tonali, Guimarães, Joelinton; Murphy, Barnes, Isak.
Alexander Isak scored his 25th of the season on Wednesday, while the Swede has scored three in two against Aston Villa on Tyneside, now seeking to net at Villa Park for the first time.
We cannot seperate these two teams, so we're forecasting a score draw on Saturday evening, that probably suits Newastle, given their higher league position: Aston Villa 1-1 Newcastle United.
