Aston Villa will not make it ‘easy’ for Emiliano Martinez to leave the club this summer amid interest from Manchester United and Saudi Pro League sides.

Martinez had been expected to leave Aston Villa in the current window, with the goalkeeper appearing to say a tearful goodbye to the club’s fans at the conclusion of the Premier League campaign.

Manchester United initiated contact with the Argentina international earlier this summer, and Martinez is open to a transfer to Old Trafford. Despite the absence of Champions League football, Martinez is keen on the transfer after five seasons at Villa Park.

However, Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Villa will ‘not make it easy’ for the 32-year-old to depart.

Unai Emery considers Martinez an important part of his plans and the club will demand a significant fee for the two-time Yashin Trophy winner. Villa’s summer business has been impacted by Premier League Profit and Sustainability concerns.

In order to part with a key figure, The Villans will demand a considerable sum. Villa’s stance could see Manchester United turn to a more cost-effective and longer-term option.

Talks have been held regarding Royal Antwerp goalkeeper Senne Lammens, who is a decade younger than Martinez. Andre Onana’s absence with a hamstring injury has also complicated the potential sale of the current number one.

After completing the signing of Bryan Mbeumo, Manchester United remain keen to sign a goalkeeper, defensive midfielder and centre-forward before the deadline. The scale of their business will hinge on exits as suitors are sought for Antony, Jadon Sancho and Alejandro Garnacho.
