Manchester City appear to have finalised the exit of another rising talent from within their Academy ranks this week, with 19-year-old Kane Taylor heading for the exit door.

Taylor first signed for Manchester City back in 2019, before going on to sign a scholarship and first professional contract with the club from 2021, impacting games for the club at both ends of the field and progressing into the under-18s squad for the 2021/22 campaign.

Progressing into Manchester City’s most senior tier of youth football by joining the Elite Development Squad in 2022/23, there was hope from within the game that further building on performances could permit greater first-team training opportunities this campaign.

However, following interest from a number of clubs across the Premier League, Manchester City have now reportedly agreed to a deal that will see Kane Taylor return to the club that originally sold him to the City Football Academy.

That is according to the information of The Athletic’s Jacob Tanswell and Sam Lee, who reveal that Aston Villa are set to re-sign Manchester City’s midfielder Kane Taylor in a deal worth up to £750,000.

Born in Birmingham, the 19-year-old can operate at both left-back and in central defence but is primarily a midfielder, scoring five goals for Manchester City’s Elite Development Squad in 39 Premier League 2 appearances.

As part of the agreement to send Taylor back to Villa Park, the report details that Manchester City have also inserted a sell-on clause of 25 per cent, maintaining interest in the player’s future career at the top of the game.

The exit of Kane Taylor to Villa Park is the latest in a long line of Academy system exits this summer, both in the way of permanent and developmental loan deals across English football and into the European game.

The ongoing summer transfer window has already seen the likes of Mahamadou Susoho and Callum Doyle move into the English Football League on season-long loan agreements, joining Peterborough United and Norwich City respectively.

It remains to be seen how many more deals are completed this summer, with Manchester City open to proposals for almost all of their names, including Academy star Joel Ndala – who is attracting interest from the likes of Ajax and Venezia.
