Manchester United’s lure in the transfer market has been further proved following a new revelation about Aston Villa and their pursuit of Senne Lammens.

Lammens joins United

On Monday evening, United confirmed that they had agreed a deal with Royal Antwerp for Senne Lammens.

Ahead of deadline day, United made a decision to make a decisive move for a goalkeeper after tough starts to the season for Altay Bayindir and Andre Onana.

The Red Devils lined up swoops for Lammens and Villa’s Emiliano Martinez. Lammens was the priority target but United were prepared to snap up Martinez in case they failed to reach an agreement with Antwerp.

However, a compromise with the Belgian Pro League club was eventually struck. United will fork out an initial £18.2m plus an additional £3.5m in add-ons.

United were not the only interested party in Lammens. Turkish giants Galatasaray were also eyeing the 23-year-old and were ready to offer Antwerp a bigger financial package.

However, Lammens made it clear that his wish was to join United.

Now, the Daily Mail have confirmed that Villa were also interested in Lammens and went a step further, agreeing a fee with Antwerp. Villa’s bid was higher than United’s. However, Lammens still snubbed them for the Red Devils.

Lammens’ showcases United’s pull

The newspaper reveals, “Confidential understands that Aston Villa had agreed a fee with Antwerp for Lammens that was higher than United’s offer of £18.2m plus £3.5m in add-ons.”

“But the 23-year-old goalkeeper wanted a dream move to Old Trafford.”

Lammens is not the only player who turned down more money elsewhere to join United. Bryan Mbeumo rebuffed Tottenham Hotspur despite the North London outfit’s willingness to pay Brentford more money than Ruben Amorim’s side.

Newcastle presented Benjamin Sesko with significantly higher wages and tabled a higher bid than United. However, Sesko still pushed for a switch to the 20-time English champions.

It underlines that, although United have endured tough times in recent years, the club’s appeal remains firmly intact.
