Aston Villa are now increasingly hopeful that Morgan Rogers will be fit for their Premier League opening game of 2025-26 against Newcastle United on Saturday, according to the Daily Mail.

The Villans take on the Magpies at Villa Park this weekend in their first match of the new campaign, and there were fears the English attacker could miss action.

Rogers damaged his ankle in the 4-0 win over AS Roma in a pre-season friendly last Wednesday (August 6) and was unable to finish the game.

The 23-year-old Villa star was unavailable for selection when the Midlands club took on Marseille and Villarreal last weekend in their last games of pre-season, and manager Unai Emery was left worried.

However, the Spaniard has been handed a boost as Rogers has been involved in first-team training this week.

Confidence is now growing that he will be ready when Newcastle come visiting as the Villans look to start the campaign on a winning note.

The England international was a key player for Villa last term, notching 14 goals and 16 assists in 54 appearances across all competitions.

He ended 2023-24 with ten goals and ten assists in 49 games, and the likes of Arsenal and Chelsea have been linked with interest in him.

However, Villa want to offer him a new contract to reflect his status as a key player in the team, and talks are ongoing despite the player having five years left on his current contract.

Rogers signed a six-year extension in November 2024, but could soon be getting improved terms as his influence continues to spread.

He will be looking forward to hitting the ground running when the campaign kicks off.

Helping Villa to win the Europa League will also be high on his list as he eyes a place in the Three Lions squad at the 2026 World Cup.
