Aston Villa defender Rachel Corsie is set to undergo surgery on a knee injury and she will spend several weeks on the sidelines.

The Villans provided an update on Corsie’s injury via a post on their official club website yesterday.

Corsie sustained the injury during Aston Villa’s 2-1 extra-time victory over Manchester City in the quarter-finals of the Vitality Women’s FA Cup earlier this month. The Scotland international defender netted the first of Aston Villa’s two goals in that match. Despite sustaining an injury, Corsie was able to play the full 120 minutes for The Villans.

Aston Villa have reported that Corsie’s upcoming surgery will be minor, an indication that the player will hopefully not be sidelined for too long.

Corsie joined Aston Villa on a free transfer in January 2022 after leaving American National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) club Kansas City Current. The player linked-up with Aston Villa boss Carla Ward for the second time in her career with the pair having previously worked together on the other side of the Second City at Birmingham City in 2020/2021. Corsie has made 20 appearances for Aston Villa in the Barclays Women’s Super League, helping the club to continue their rapid development as a top flight side.
