Hay scored 14 goals in 15 games in the first half of the 2024/25 season, earning him a loan move to Cheltenham Town where he netted three goals in 23 appearances across all competitions.
The young striker then rejoined Brentford B at the end of the League Two campaign, playing three times as the west Londoners won the U21 Professional Development League national title. He also featured in the Premier League Cup final.
Hay scored a hat-trick on two separate occasions for the B team, the first coming in a 6-1 away victory at Charlton Athletic and the second against Queens Park Rangers in a 4-1 win at Wheatsheaf Park.
He will now link up with former Brentford head of individual player development Steven Pressley, who departed the club at the end of last season and was appointed Dundee head coach in June. He’ll also reunite with Tony Yogane, who has joined the Dee on a season-long loan.
On Hay's move, B-team head coach Sam Saunders said: “We’re really pleased for him. He came into our environment from non-league and deserves a lot of credit for the way he applied himself every day.
"From the moment he signed, he showed a strong work ethic and commitment to improving, which earned him regular minutes and a good number of goals last season.
“After a positive loan spell in League Two last season, this feels like the perfect next step for him. Knowing the type of player and person Ash is, I am confident he will continue to learn and grow as a player.
"We wish him all the best - he’s worked hard for this opportunity and deserves every success.”
