Great article (‘Our trip to Celtic – My three different takes on the day’) by Tony Malabar on The Mag on Sunday, which included a photo of flares and flags outside the Bristol Bar in Glasgow.

Great stuff.

I had seen the image earlier and just thought – wish I was there.

As it happens, I was at a place that could have been a million miles away (North London) on Friday night, my daughter went to see K Pop band Stray Kids at the Tottenham stadium. One hundred thousand kids and parents paying upwards of £125 for the privilege.

My wife went to that and so next day, to balance out parental duties, it was my turn to take my son out.

Saturday afternoon and the venue is the Cock Tavern in Euston, or to be more accurate, the boozer in the middle of the notorious Somers Town Estate behind the train station. Low rise housing estate of concrete and brown brick so beloved of the people who decide upon the grade listing of architecture.

As we cut into the estate off the main road from Euston, my afro sporting fourteen year old gives me a double take; “Are we in the right place?”

“Yes, I’m meeting Jeff from Gosforth.”

As we turn the corner we see the Green and White bedecked classic council estate pub. We have just stepped back in time some thirty years.

The pub is full of Cockney/Irish Celtic fans but as usual there is the cluster of Geordies necking the beers and being very vocal.

My mate had brought his daughter down for Stray Kids and this is his chance to have a few beers with me and grab hold of reality.

He is wearing his Newcastle shirt, as is my lad, but as the goals go in at Celtic Park, there is just a shake of the head as the Cockneys cheer.

The old Celtic boys I interact with speak with London accents, a sign of the times. We have many generations of Irish immigration, me being one of them.

Next to the pool table in a cabinet is a replica of the European Cup. I take a photo and send it to my Arsenal supporting colleagues, saying Newcastle United will win this before you lot.

Having said that, if Newcastle United do not step up their game and build a new stadium to rival Spurs, then all that income that K Pop bands like Stray Kids generate will be lost.
