Eliesse Ben Seghir will not be sold off by AS Monaco, even if he doesn't currently play a key role in the squad. The club has recently turned down an initial offer from Bayer Leverkusen for their Moroccan midfielder.

The German side has shown genuine interest in the young Moroccan attacking midfielder, but this first proposal failed to convince Monaco's management. According to Fabrizio Romano, Bayer Leverkusen is already preparing a renewed push in the coming days to try and sway ASM. The Bundesliga champions from two seasons ago are particularly attracted to Ben Seghir’s technical and creative profile, viewing him as a prospect for the future.

Monaco shuts the door on Leverkusen for now

Eliesse Ben Seghir is considered one of the most promising talents to come through Monaco’s ranks. He broke onto the scene in the 2022-2023 season, making rapid progress before being hampered by injuries and misunderstandings with the coaching staff. Nevertheless, AS Monaco still sees him as part of its medium-term project and isn’t looking to let him go for a bargain price. The Principality club believes the Moroccan’s potential warrants a much higher valuation than what Leverkusen has tabled. No official figure has been revealed, but the offer is believed to be below €20 million.

Moreover, Bayer Leverkusen isn’t the only German club with an eye on Ben Seghir. Borussia Dortmund, always on the lookout for young European talent, has also shown interest in the Moroccan, though they haven’t submitted a bid yet. The Black and Yellows are monitoring the situation closely and are ready to make a move if an opportunity arises.

For his part, Ben Seghir remains focused on the new season with Monaco. However, the Moroccan international isn’t ruling out a departure if a convincing project with guaranteed playing time comes along, especially with the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations approaching—a tournament where he hopes to earn a spot in Morocco’s squad.
