White felt the issue after training on Friday and was not part of the squad for Saturday’s game at Emirates Stadium.
In the right-back’s absence, Thomas Partey was shifted from midfield to the defence as Jurrien Timber was unable to start, too.
Arsenal will hope that White is back for the second leg of their Champions League quarter-final against Real Madrid on Wednesday.
“Ben White couldn’t be in the squad because he felt something again post-training yesterday, so that limits the solutions we have because Jurrien wasn’t ready to start the game either,” said Arteta.
“Other players as well played a lot of minutes and other players deserve to play minutes to help the team.”
Arteta made five changes to his team for the game with Brentford after Arsenal’s win over Real Madrid.
Kieran Tierney also came into the defence, with Jorginho and Oleksandr Zinchenko added to the midfield.
In attack, there were starts for Ethan Nwaneri and Leandro Trossard. Raheem Sterling was forced to settle for a place on the bench.
