Arsenal, Liverpool and Newcastle United have been issued a stark warning over their rumoured interest in Brentford winger Bryan Mbeumo ahead of the January transfer window.

Mbeumo has stepped up his goalscoring output this season, netting ten times in the Premier League – only five players in the division have scored more so far in 2024/25.

He has already bettered the successive nines he registered in 2022/23 and 2023/24, while the Cameroonian is well on course to surpass the career high 15 league goals he got in 2019/20 – that came at a time when Brentford were playing in the Championship.

Such form has unsurprisingly brought links with bigger clubs, with Arsenal, Liverpool and Newcastle all reported to be on the lookout for options to strengthen over the next few weeks. But Bees boss Thomas Frank has claimed "nothing will happen" before the window has even opened.

"In January? I would say good luck," Frank told reporters at a press conference this week as Brentford prepare to face Arsenal on New Year's Day.

"We love Bryan. He loves playing here. He has had a fantastic season, so nothing will happen."

Brentford are enjoying another solid Premier League season, nine points clear of the relegation zone as 2024 becomes 2025, and within one win of the top half.

The Bees have made a reputation of developing previously unknown talents – like Mbeumo – but have also often managed to avoid their players being poached by wealthier teams.

David Raya, who joined Arsenal for £27m following an initial loan, is perhaps the one exception to that. Ivan Toney was sold for big money to Saudi Arabia's Al Ahli off the back of an underwhelming season, and having entered the final year of his contract.
